A Report On Translation Of Study Abroad In TJU

The newspaper Study Abroad in TJU is a propaganda material of Tianjin University International Education School,and with which the School intends to boost its own image and strengthen its communication and cooperation with foreign countries.Since the newspaper is written in Chinese,and its readers have always been confined to teachers and students who know Chinese well,the International Education School has decided to issue an English version on the occasion of the 120~thh Anniversary of Tianjin University so as to further spread the School culture and enhance its global influence.Seeing that the Chinese version,the original text contains articles involving different text types,to produce an equivalent effect translation,which can not only spread Chinese culture,but also be well understood by the target language reader,the translator must choose appropriate translation methods.Therefore,the author has selected Newmark's translation theory as the guidance,employing methods of semantic translation and communicative translation in completing the translation task.This practice report is just composed on the basis of finishing the translation task.There are four parts in the report.Part one gives an introduction of the translation task,including the background and purpose of the translation practice,contents and features of the source text and translation brief.Part two presents the processes of preparation,translation and proofreading.Part three discusses the application of semantic translation and communicative translation in this task through a case analysis.Based on the analysis,it can be concluded that:the English version of the newspaper is for the reading of the readers who are overseas teachers,students and alumni.For the consideration of the reader,and for the realization of the purpose of boosting the School image and extending international communication,the translator should take communicative translation as the main method,and semantic translation as the complement one.In addition,in accordance with specific functions of the text, 7the translator has to make a flexible use of the two translation methods so as to ensure the accuracy and smoothness of target text.Part four is the summary of the translation practice,which contains a brief summary,deficiencies of the translated text and a reflection of being a good translator.The author hopes that this report can be a reference for newspaper translation.
