This report is about the translation of publicity materials of IKEA,commissioned by the IKEA Company during the present author’s internship in Linguitronics of Shang Hai.The source text is articles published on the magazine called IKEA aiming to introduce the culture of IKEA to customers.The source text belongs to the vocative text which requires the target language to be simple and persuasive.This report is divided into five sections.The first section introduces the task description,the main content of the translation project,requirements of the clients and the translation process.The second section gives a brief introduction of pre-translation as well as tools,resources and the theory applied in the translation.The third section illustrates specific examples and translation choices at the lexical and syntactical level.The fourth section discusses the problems found in proofreading and editing.Finally,the last section concludes with a brief summary of what has been learnt from completing the translation project.When translating the publicity materials of the company,the author paid great attention to text features of the vocative text,and discusses the translation strategies and methods of the publicity materials at the lexical and syntactical level,searching for the background information to find the specific translation of names of products and proper nouns,using relevant translation methods such as the division and combination,the reversing,the omission and addition to translate sentences so as to make target language simpler and more concise.
