| As a basic subject,English education plays an essential role in students’ development. How to improve the effect of English learning is a subject that scholars have been studying.Scholars have found that self-efficacy,the degree of self-confidence in the ability to complete a task, plays an important role in learning. At present, there is much research on self-efficacy,but the relationship between self-efficacy and English achievement of vocational college students is insufficient.Besides, most of them only rely on a questionnaire survey. This study is to explore the differences of self-efficacy among genders, majors and grades, the relationship between English achievement and self-efficacy,and to explore effective ways to improve students’ self-efficacy.A questionnaire survey was conducted among 654 students of three majors in Anqing Medical College and an interview was given to 8 of them in order to find out the differences in individual self-efficacy.On this basis,a ten-week teaching intervention was conducted in a first-grade pharmacy class. The results of the questionnaire and English test were compared with those of a control class before and after the intervention. The results of the questionnaire survey and interview show that the self-efficacy of boys is higher than that of girls;sophomores and the major of nursing have the highest self-efficacy;self-efficacy has a distinct positive predictive effect on English achievement. The results of the intervention teaching found that active and effective teaching methods, such as the training of learning strategies, setting reasonable learning goals, setting a successful example of learning, and giving encouragement to students, can all contribute to enhancing self-efficacy. |
