Semantic Study On Annual New Words Of 2014 From The Perspective Of Conceptual Blending Theory

Vocabulary is the most active factor in language.New words emerge in endlessly to meet the need of communication.The Ministry of Education and State Language Committee have published the annual new word to the society every year since the launch of “Language Situation in China: 2006” in 2006.The paper take the 2014 annual new words as the research object,the book “2014 Annual Chinese New Words ” published by the commercial press,edited by Hou Min and Zou Yu as the main source.In this paper we analyze the changes in syllables and structural type from the quantitative and qualitative method,study the semantic feature using descriptive and analytical method,and research their meaning generation process under the perspective of Conceptual Blending Theory.The major of the annual new words of 2014 are three-syllable words,while compared with the words in Modern Chinese Dictionary they are much longer than the average Chinese words.In terms of word formation,compounds words occupied the main part,among them modifier-head word is the most,followed by additional type.The concept of the new words are mainly from the self innovation and the areas are widely distributed.The color meaning is rich in content.The construction of the meaning is not a simple combination of composition but a integration of known ideation and context.Conceptual integration of new words including mix integration and sectional integration,mix integration consist of simplex network,mirror network,single network and double network,annual words of 2014 are mainly blended by simplex and single network.Words by double network have higher innovation.Complex concepts may be blended by two or more networks.Absolutely there is no one-to-one model in the actual integration.The process is influenced by language rules and subjective factors.New words includes three blending levels and most of the words belong to level.
