A Corpus-based Study Of The Source Language Interference In Chinese-english Business Translation

This paper explores corpus-based source-language interference in Chinese-English business translation.The thesis provides comparative analysis of negative transfer in Chinese-English business translation from aspects like vocabulary,sentence structure,style and culture based on existing corpus platform and self-built small MTI exercise corpus(the data in the corpus are mainly from the homework of MTI students).Guided by theories like first language negative transfer,corpus translation studies and error analysis theory,it explores the specific forms and root causes of interference by source language and follows to come up with some common issues and characteristics of Chinese learners' works in Chinese-English business translation.Then,the thesis analyzes the source of such negative transfer and offers major countermeasures for solving such negative transfer.This paper explores some relatively common problems or general characteristics reflected in the target texts and the interference of source language when Chinese learners do the Chinese-English business translation.According to the author,the interference of source language in the Chinese-English translation is mainly represented at the lexical level,syntactic level,stylistic level and cultural level.The root causes for this can be analyzed from four aspects,including differences in the vocabulary and lexical collocation;syntactic differences in Chinese and English;differences in cohesive devices and structures of Chinese and English texts;differences in cultural background and language environment.In this paper,it is concluded that the interference of source language is one of the key factors that affect the quality of translation;so,the effective way of improving the translation quality is to avoid the interference of source language.Moreover,some countermeasures of overcoming the source language interference are put forward in this paper so that the translators can improve the translation level through consciously using such countermeasures.
