A Case Study Of Undergraduate Students' English Writing Lesson Through POA

This paper includes an experimental instruction based on POA(Production-oriented Approach),aiming to probe its influence on students' writing skills and psychological factors.It also focuses on student's attitude towards the implementation of POA in college English class.The duration of this experiment is 16 weeks.60 sophomores from two parallel classes of English writing course in Harbin Institute of Technology are chosen as subjects.One of the classes is experimental class taught based on POA,the other as control class.The instruments of this experiment are pre-test,post-test,interview and questionnaire.The data collected from two tests and questionnaire is analyzed by SPSS.In the mid-term of this course,students are chosen randomly to participate in an interview,which aims to probe the changes of students' psychological factors and their attitude towards POA.The research shows that the English writing course based on POA can enhance students' writing skills effectively to some extent.The test result of experimental class is improved comparatively more significantly than control class,and the amount of top students in experimental class is higher than control class in terms of the results of post-test.Meanwhile,POA has some positive effects on students' psychological factors including learning enthusiasm,learning confidence,and cooperative consciousness.Students show their bright and positive attitudes towards POA and are willing to produce.Also,this paper has a deeply thought on the problems and difficulties arisen in the process of experimental instruction and interview,hoping to provide some useful suggestions and experiences to the further research.
