A Study On Tang Jimi Laws Applying To Lingnan

The Tang Jimi laws are Tang laws applying to the minority reservations which are different from the laws applying to the majority area.Jimi laws are important parts of laws adjusting the relationship between Han and minorities which consist essential parts of traditional Chinese legal system.The Tang Jimi laws have important meaning on the formation and development of the unified multi-ethnic country and the specific border areas.The Tang Dynasty,the largest unified multi-ethnic period in the history of China,is an important period for the development of Jimi laws.Tang laws managing and developing frontier area,adjusting relationship between Han and minorities gained unprecedented development which set an excellent example for later dynasties.The Tang Jimi laws are one of the most representative content of those Tang laws.The Tang central government enacted a series of Jimi laws applying to Lingnan area,a multi-ethnic southeastern coastal border area,in accordance with its real situations.The laws have an important impact on relationship between southeastern border area and the central government as well as the development of Lingnan area.This thesis is to analyze the military,administrative,economic and commercial laws of Tang Jimi laws applying to Lingnan under the background of its geographical,military,political and economic situation.To be specific,the laws include military law,administrative division law,the election and management regulations of the officials,tax laws,trade laws including maritime trade laws and codes about contraband applying to Lingnan.This thesis is for the purpose of highlighting the peculiarities of Tang Jimi laws applying to Lingnan area comparing with those laws applying to other border areas,its developments under different historical backgrounds as well as examples of flexibility of law,relationship between central government and minorities in border area,regional development and the prosperity of Maritime Silk Road.
