As we’re in the midst of an age where the knowledge economy is growing rapidly,the popularization of scientific knowledge is more important than ever before.More and more popular science books which promote and popularize scientific and technological knowledge in popular and easy ways are introduced to China.To make Chinese readers learn more about scientific knowledge,it is becoming increasingly important to translate these science books.The material for this translation report is excerpted from a book called ‘Our Stolen Future’.The main character of popular science books is to pass on information,so the thesis uses the theory of communicative translation.The translator adopts seven translation skills based on morphology and syntax that include: lexical conversion,turning phrases into clauses,amplification & omission,linear translation,inversion,division & combination and lastly conversion.Through this translation practice,the translator obtains deep understanding that communicative translation plays an important role in the translation of popular science text and theory.Translation theory in combination with practice can make for a better translation.
