Since entering the southern Dynasties,the rulers almost appointed imperial clan to strengthen the imperial power and to depress the aristocratic families.However,if the power of the imperial was strong,it would threat the stability of imperial power.In the Liu Song Dynasty,the imperial clan killed each other for the imperial power and this led to the Liu Song Dynasty’s perdition.In view of this,on the one hand,the rulers of the Southern Qi Dynasty appointed imperial clan,on the other hand,they strengthened monitoring efforts.This was reflected in the imperial clan’s condition of being officials.On the whole,the office position that the imperial clan especially the immediate parts occupied was very important and their offices were not only high grade and fast promotion.The imperial clan occupied large proportion in the office that the official of Three Departments.The official of Shangshusheng held the reins in Shangshusheng,so the Menxiasheng was.So,the imperial clan formed a strong control force in Shangshusheng and Menxiasheng.In contrast,the decision-making authority that the Zhongshusheng controlled was very important,the emperors could not tolerate any forces of control over it.Therefore,even though the imperial clan became the official of Zhongshusheng,they could not control it.The emperors would promote the people who were low-born to be Secretary so that the decision-making power firmly in control in their own hands.In the local area,compared with other sectors,the proportion that the imperial held the post of governors were dominant.In some important areas such as Yangzhou Captaincy-General,only imperial clan who were trusted by emperor could take the office of governors.In addition,their grade of officials and social class were high.Furthermore,after holding the post of governors,the imperial clan’s grade of officials would be higher.However,the imperial clan’s power in the local area was not so greatthat we thought.The emperors would develop a variety of measure such as setting Zhangshi、 Sima、Dianqian and so on to control the imperial clan.So,the imperial clan seemed to have a lot of power,actually constrained by many factors.The emperors also Knighted the imperial clan to improve their social class.To highlight them,except for special circumstances only the imperial clan could get Wang Jue and their fiefs were the important counties.When necessary,the emperors would change imperial clan’s title.
