Probing Into The Thoughts Of Confucianism,Taoism And Buddhist In Shishuo Xinyu

Shishuo Xinyu is an anecdotal account of romantic stories of Wei and Jin Dynasties scholar-bureaucrats.In the Wei and Jin Dynasties,a turbulent period,Shishuo Xinyu contains a diverse ideological components such as Confucianism thought,Buddhism thought and Taoism thought,which have been recognized by most scholars,due to the decline of Confucianism and the rise of Buddhism and Taoism.However,concrete manifestation of the idea of Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism,and their relationship in Shishuo Xinyu have not been elaborated in the current academic books and articles.This article will focus on three aspects to explain the specific embodiment and the relationship between them and status: Confucian thought,characteristics of Taoism and elements of Buddhism.The main body of the thesis consists of four parts:The first part discusses the background of Shishuo Xinyu.During Wei and Jin Dynasties,as the dominance of Confucianism was shaken,the development of Taoism and Buddhism makes the social thoughts more pluralistic in this period.The first part of the paper is mainly concerned with three aspects: the development of Confucianism and the rise of Shuzu;the rise of Taoism and metaphysics of the Wei and Jin Dynasties and the development of Buddhism in Wei and Jin Dynasties.The second part discusses the pluralistic thoughts of Liu Yiqing during his codification.As the lexicographer of Shishuo Xinyu,the tendency of Liu Yiqing has an important impact on Shishuo Xinyu.The second part of the paper is mainly concerned with three aspects to explain the pluralistic of Liu Yiqing's thought: Liu Yiqing's Confucian mindset;Liu Yiqing prostituted himself to the gentry culture and Liu Yiqing's recognition of Buddhist thought.The third section discusses the thoughts of Confucianism and Taoism in Shishuo Xinyu.As a book with political leanings,Shishuo Xinyu has some Confucianism features in both categories set and texts.But in the Wei and Jin Dynasties,Taoism had a tremendous impact on diehards.And that king of impact is everywhere in Shishuo Xinyu.The third part of the paper will discuss the relationship of Confucianism and Taoism in Shishuo Xinyu from four aspect: the Confucianism in Shishuo Xinyu;the Taoism's effect on people in Shishuo Xinyu in the Wei and Jin;Shishuo Xinyu and Wei,Jin romantic;the intermingle of Confucianism and Taoism.The fourth section discusses the integration of Buddhist and Metaphysics in Shishuo Xinyu.As the Metaphysics developed to his later stage,people began to have some self-examination about the adverse effects caused by Metaphysics in politics and society,Buddhism got a fast development as absorbing the theories of metaphysics and Confucianism.The Buddhist and Metaphysics began to fuse as Buddhist monks and personages' s effect.The fourth part will discuss the fuse of Buddhist and Metaphysics from three aspects: the integration of the Wei,Jin romantic decline and the rise of Buddhism;the effects of Buddhist monks and Buddhist metaphysics in fusing Buddhist and Metaphysics;the nobles culture had an identification in Buddhist.In a word,Shishuo Xinyu contains a wide variety of thoughts,but the position of each part is different.There are many reasons for this phenomenon: the social trends,a personal choice made by Liu Yiqing,political purposes and the author's compromise with current situation.It is meaningful to analyze the thoughts of Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism in Shishuo Xinyu.Their manifestations,status and relationships are playing positive roles in studying the ideological nature of Shishuo Xinyu.
