According to The White Paper on China’s Inbound Tourism published by Google,Chinese history and culture are the most important attractions to the foreign tourists.Chinese civilization is showcased in different kinds of museums.Therefore,the high-quality interpreting service in museums is conducive to disseminating Chinese history and culture and enhancing the international image of China.The difficulties encountered in the task and the corresponding strategies are as follows: First,the noisy and crowded environment of the museum as well as the long distance between the pottery figures and tourists significantly reduce the quality of the tourists’ audio and visual experience.To solve this problem,interpreters should,first,be faithful to the interpretation of the tour guide and then learn the related folklore and anecdotes through various channels so as to keep the tourists as much curious about and interested in the museum as possible.Second,such characteristics of tour guide interpreting as time limitation and mobility also have an impact on the quality of visits to the museum.Under such circumstances,interpreters should improve the efficiency and guarantee the quality by playing appropriate roles.Third,language is the carrier of culture.Cultural differences are bound to trigger misunderstandings and even conflicts between tourists and tour guides.Therefore,the interpreters should develop cross-cultural awareness and pay attention to the ways of expressions of the target language in order to ensure intercultural communication.The purpose of this report lies in the summary of appropriate interpreting strategies and techniques,the study of the guide interpreting and the exploration of tour guide interpreters’ roles.This report will also provide suggestions for both efficient museum management and better quality of tour guide interpreting.The museum should draw on the successful experience of other museums to manage the flow of the visitors.Tour guide interpreters should be equipped with the spirit of research and discovery,foster an awareness of cross-cultural communication,and act in accordance with the changing situations.
