In July,2015,the author accompanied a British intern on her visit to the Museum of Nanyue Palace and interpreted the tour guide's utterance for her.Based on this interpreting task, this report faithfully records the communication process among the guide, the interpreter and the tourist. The report is divided into five parts, namely task description,pre-task process, interpreting process, reflection and conclusion. The museum exhibits antiquities like stone brooks, ancient wells, tiles and so on.The introduction made by tour guide was designed for Chinese tourists. As a result, terminology brought a host of difficulties in the process of interpreting. Therefore, this report would focus on the coping strategy of terminology translation in guide interpreting.Through case study and feedbacks from the tourist, the author found out that cultural gap between Chinese and English, and lack of background knowledge, were the two main causes of decreased interpreting quality. To solve these problems, the author suggested that skopos theory should be applied in guide interpreting.Coping tactics including explanation, paraphrase, simplification, transliteration, generalization and correction, could become effective approaches when interpreters are faced with terminology.Actually, the listed transcription here would be far from perfect. But the author tries to provide suggestions and inspiration through analyzing her cases. The report is expected to help interpreters better introduce places of interest in China.
