This is the translation report of Jim Shepard's Your Fate Hurtles Down at You.As an adventure fiction,Your Fate Hurtles Down at You contains a lot of short and implicit dialogues with far-reaching meaning.The past years have witnessed more and more achievements of translation studies from various perspectives,such as translation history,translation theories and translation practice.As a significant branch,translation of fictional dialogues in literary works has always been a much-explored field.It not only conveys information to readers,but also makes a great contribution to the depiction of characters,the description of the background and the development of the plot.Many scholars have conducted a number of researches on fictional dialogue translation nowadays and more and more pragmatic theories are being applied to translation studies.Among them,Cooperative Principle,which regulates interlocutors' verbal behavior,plays a unique role in improving translation quality.This report is divided into five parts.The first part is task description,which offers a brief introduction to the author and the source text of this translation project.The second part is process description,illustrating the preparation,process and proofreading of the translation.The third part is theoretical background that includes Four Maxims of Cooperative Principle as well as conversational implicature.The fourth part is case study,mainly focusing on analyzing the flouting of the four maxims and the generated conversational implicature during the interpretation phase and reproduction phase respectively of translating process.The last part is the conclusion of this translation program.This report proves that it is feasible to analyze and transfer the conversational implicature of fictional dialogues with the expanding application of the Cooperative Principle.
