Jonathan Franzen(1959-),one of the best writers in contemporary American literature.In the prevalent era of magic realism,minimalism,stream of consciousness of postmodernism creation,Franzen has exalted the traditional realism banner in the19 th Century,writing the contemporary Americans' daily life and spiritual world with a Vitoria style.The dissertation is based on his three novels "The Corrections","Freedom" and "Purity" as the research object,from the perspective of daily life,investigates the living conditions and spiritual dilemma of the common people in detail,and examines Franzen 's exquisite characterization and criticism on American contemporary life.There are five chapters in this dissertation,the first chapter is the introduction part,mainly introduces the life and works of Jonathan Franzen,delineates the overseas and domestic study of the writer,explains the key words and the significance of the study.The second chapter analyzes Franzen's panorama depiction of everyday life.Franzen is an observer of everyday life.His novels focus on American middle-class families,writing their life trivia,family clashes,neighborhood relationships and friends.At the same time,his novels also place American family life in the background of panoramic view,and pay attention to various social problems which are closely related to daily life,showing deep realistic concern.The third chapter discusses the theme of family relations in daily life.Under the background of the common defects of all Americans,Franzen explores the source of the rift on the surface of the nuclear family,and records the dissolution of the traditional family model.But he not only recorded the decline and collapse,but also with its profound and stable moral concern to write the "Empty Nest" family's loneliness,showing the survival of the elderly mirror.At the same time,focusing on the "self" crisis of individual characters in traditional values and modern consumption conflict to reveal the essence of contemporary American cultural crisis,and tries to find a way to rescue.The fourth chapter investigates the exquisite portrayal of the novel under abstract construction.Frankzen's writing on everyday life has very obvious personal characteristics.Whether it is "The Corrections","Freedom" or "Purity",the simple name of the novel is rich in profound philosophy.The frenzied character dialogue shows his unique treatment of the daily life conflict,he is also particularly good at understanding the inner world of characters,the continuous,delicate psychological description is more like a fine pin.The novel also shows the writer's unique narrative of the central and western regions,writing two generations of different emotions on the mid-west regions.The fifth chapter studies Franzen's criticism and reflection on daily life.Franzen is also a critic of daily life.In his novels,the world of everyday life has become a society controlled by the media such as advertising,television,network and so on.Such alienation of daily life brings about alienation of human beings,and human nature becomes distorted under the abnormal expansion of desire.To this end,Franzen advocates to reshape the true face of life,reconciling with the social and individual in the noisy and colorful mass culture.
