In the embryonic stage of Anti-Japanese war,Chinese people reachedthepeakof their emotion during the war,as a consequence,the Anti-Japanese poems rose.Due to the social background and his own reasons,BianZhilin went to Yan'an,thebase areas of Anti-Japanese war,as a journalist of the army.From 1938 to 1939,BianZhilin wrote a series of Anti-Japanese poems and these poems were collected to The Collection of Comforting and Appreciation Letters.The Collection of Comforting and Appreciation Lettersdescribed "true stories" of Yan'an.The content of these Poemsare corresponding to those details in the novels,short reports,reportage,and the popular music created at the same time.BianZhilin inherited the style of the New Moon School and made his poems filled with colloquialism and full of dramatic elements,as well as follow the rules of rhyme and meter.However,the poetry is not impersonal anymore for the integration of the his poems werethe image and feelings of the poet.The poet began to describe "Human" and cared aboutnational affairs and he started to thinkabout the relationship of individuals and collective.The theme of The Collection of Comforting and Appreciation Letterswas Anti-Japanese War,based on that,the poet expressed the horror of war,his hatred of the enemy and the his sympathy to the soldiers and the people.It is worth noting thatsome of his poems also revealedsympathy to Japanese.The poet's opinion of peace was able to related to his ideas of humanitarianism and could be traced back to the poet's life experience in Japan in 1935.BianZhilinwas a writer and translator,so the translator's identity led he learnt from foreign literature.The Collection of Comforting and Appreciation Letterswas also influenced by the western literature.As it represented now,styles of Andre Gide and Audenwere traceable in his poems.Andre Gide's rigorous artistic creation and "spiral of progress" in the poetic and creation technique enlightenBianZhilin and Auden's deep observation of society and the love for language,deeply influenced BianZhilin.
