Saussure is the founder of modern linguistics and structuralism.In 1916,Saussurepublished the "Course in General Linguistics",it is significant to modern linguistics.Bloomfield is the president of American descriptive linguistics,In 1933,he published the "Language",it is regarded as a classic of American descriptive linguistics.The researches on their language theories of each are mature at home and abroad,but they have different views about whether Bloomfield inherited Saussure's opinions.After a systematically study of two masters' representative works of the "Course in General Linguistics" and "Language",this paper consider that Bloomfield not only inherited Saussure's language theories,but also greatly developed parts of Saussure's theories.This article including four parts,the first part expounds the reasons and significance of the thesis,and the research situations of the topic.The second part summarizes Saussure's language theories,Which is the basis of Bloomfield's inheritance and development,it expounds from four aspects of the language and speech,diachronic and synchronic,system theory and semiotic theory.The third part is Bloomfield's development on the basis of Saussure's theories,Bloomfield kept a basic consistence with Saussure in the principle of linguistics.But at the same time,they have different positions essentially.Therefore,the inheritance with many indirect differences from Saussure's theories.The fourth chapter is Bloomfield's development on the basis of Saussure's theories,it mainly includes grammatical analysis,lexical,syntactic knowledge and phonemic theory.Bloomfield didn't stick to the framework of Saussure,but based on the abundant description,and putted forward a lot of new linguistic concepts,it laid the foundation for the development of the late period of American structuralism.
