A Study Of Chinese Translations Of R.L.Stevenson's Treasure Island

Robert Louis Stevenson is a famous British essayist,poet,novelist,and representative of the new romanticism in the late 19 th century.Stevenson has great influence on modern literature in the 20 th century owing to his unique style.Since the beginning of 20 th century,more and more translation of Stevenson‘s works came into being,studies on his translation increased accordingly.Analysis and comparison of the translation focuses on the discourse structure,while few scholars break through the limitations of the study.It is necessary to make a deep exploration.Study of Stevenson‘s translation intends to be made from multiple perspectives.First of all,this thesis makes detailed description of the translation of Stevenson‘s works in China,especially Treasure Island.Then it makes a comparative study from three aspects of culture,literature and adaptation.Based on Eco-translatology,Gu Junzheng‘s version in 1930 s and Rong Rude‘s version in 1980 s are chosen in the cultural perspective to verify Eco-translatology‘s interpretation power.Analyze how translator makes adaptation and selection in different translational environment.From literature point of view,under the guidance of Classic Narratology,Wang Hong and Zhang Guanzhi‘s versions are selected as a case study.It points out the importance of mastering the narrative structure in the process of translation from the aspect of narrative art.With Skopos Theory as the theoretical basis from the perspective of adaptation,Wang Lixing and Qi Yongmei‘s versions are selected to demonstrate effective guidance of Skopos Theory for the translators,and how the translators select the appropriate translation strategies to make it being accepted by the target reader.This thesis mainly adopts descriptive study method.Through the analysis of various versions,it broadens the application scope of these theories.What‘s more,it provides a brand new angle to understand and improve researches on Treasure Island.
