A Study On The Intercultural Communication Competence Of Thai Students Studying In China

In recent year,China has become one of the most important destination countries for learning where the number of foreign students studying in China is continuing to grow more and more.In this case,the growth of international communication,Intercultural Communication has become a hot topic,and it also has important impact on Thai students studying in China.At the same time,the number of Thai students has significant increase every year,when they are studying abroad,they will have to face a problem of intercultural communication,so this problem should not be overlooked.Nowadays,China and Thailand are good in relationship and cooperation on education,so the Thai student's demand on study in China is growing rapidly.This study focuses on Thai students studying in China from aspect of intercultural communication,by using a questionnaire and interview to explore the intercultural communication competence of Thai students studying at a South China University of Technology.This paper based on three relevant variables: Intercultural Awareness(Cognitive),Intercultural Sensitivity(Effective)and Intercultural Effectiveness(Behavior),and SPSS 22(the statistical package for social science)was used to analyze the data collected during the experiment.This study proposed six hypotheses,and these hypotheses are tested empirically and results are presented.There is obvious correlation between the three variables.Intercultural Awareness and Intercultural Sensitivity has influence on the Intercultural Effectiveness.The intercultural communication class did not have impact on Thai student's competence.The number of foreign friends has impact on the intercultural communication competence.A period of time to learn Chinese also has impact on the intercultural communication competence.Thai students who different in degree,faculty and whether or not Chinese descended,there did not have impact on the intercultural communication competence.Finally,discuss the results and make some suggestions,also the limitation of this study and outlook for future research is provided.This study can fulfill intercultural communication theory,and benefit for education management of foreign students.
