June 28,1841,the Romantic Ballet Giselle first performed in Paris is considered as the most ever excellent one in French ballet by dancers and scholars.Thus,Giselle plays an essential role both in practices and principles in the field of ballet.The Romantic Ballet period is the“ Golden Age”in the history of ballet.Golden Age means the peaks of ballet with artistic aspiration,complex skills and grand creation.Romanticism influences greatly on Romantic dance drama and there exists an unparalleled revolution in creative ideas and performance of western dance drama.This revolution brings totally new resources and performance skills of western dance drama.During romanticism period,fairy tales become great resources for drama dance creating.People find various materials in tales of supernatural spirits,fairies,ghosts and sirens.In Giselle,the heroin symbolizes the obviously romantic feature of aesthetic idea.The characters show the feature of part genuine,part fantastic.Giselle employs skills of ballet and approaches of drama.The floating image with several dancers created by the director and actresses? excellent toe touching skill wonderfully demonstrate the implication of it,which makes Giselle popular today.In one and a half century,whether she can act Giselle well is one of the most imperative practices to assess her excellence in dance.At present,pas de deux and sole in Giselle are the fixed tasks in various international ballet matches,which shows the exact innovation of figures and performance in Giselle.Therefore,from the perspective of aesthetic,the performance features in it embody great value of theory and practice.Therefore,this paper will state and explore the performance features of the heroin in theory.
