The Influence Of The Early German Romanticism On Hoffmann’s Literary Creation

In the history of German literature,even in the history of World literature,early German romanticism is a genre which is well worth attention.Early German romanticism forms its own unique cultural theory and cultural programme,which has the yearning for mysticism and a strong preference for the obscure writing and the integration of culture and religion.Hoffmann was a romanticism representative writer of Germany.Early German romanticism had an major impact on Hoffmann’s literary works,especially on its forms of creation,types and writing ideology.Fragments,as one unique literary form of early German romanticism,had been wildly used in Hoffman’s writing in novels and artistic fairy-tales,so had been his writing ideology.Hoffman also made contributions to the writing of traditional artistic fairy-tale of German romanticism.He disclosed the darkness and corruption of German society at that time and improved the artistic effects in his works by using comparative method and irony method which is one of the important literary criticism theories of early Romanticism.As a common literary genres,novella is an important part of Hoffman’s writing career.By selectively absorbing the creating features of romantic novel,Hoffman formed his own creative principles-Carol style,the Serapion principle,and corner window principle.Combined with frame structure,he developed the features-novelty,bizarre in his novella.Early German romanticism had an abundant thinking foundation from the developed humanism and philosophy in German.They made the points that literary works should be integrated with religion on the ideological basis from such philosophers as Kant,Schelling,Fichte.Just like most German romanticism preferred to express religion and nature mysticism in their works,Hoffman also preferred to express his hope that the evils of this world can be cured by the retro of the Middle Ages and Christian theology.As the representative writer of the late German romanticism,Hoffman summarized and developed the positive factors of German romanticism.This thesis focused on the study of Hoffman under the influence of German romanticism.Based on the literary criticism theory,the author tries to identify the specific influence of early German romanticism responding to Hoffman by analyzing the romanticism factors,forms and ideology from his texts.
