Recently an increasing number of people have paid much attention to mental health.Against this background, there is an increasing demands for psychological self-help books. The source text the translator has chosen is excerpted from the book UP: How Positive Outlook Can Transform Our Health and Aging which hold a reputation from people in many circles. The major feature of the source text is it emphasizes the interaction with the readers, aiming to help the readers to optimize their own outlooks. Therefore the translator tried to summarize some translation skills according to the major feature and other features of this book,to be more specific,a guide book in attitudinal change field, which could apply to the same kind of translation. The source text makes a guide to attitudinal change through professional knowledge, intensive researches, findings, questionnaires and inspiring stories. The variety of its content forms makes it difficult to translate. The difficulties lie in dealing with the text analysis, such as the flexibility of written style, blurred text type and so on,and combining with the professional knowledge and other factors.Meanwhile the translator found it hard to translate some terms, pronouns, difficult words and sentences in the translation process. In order to solve those problems and get high-quality translation, the translator used the integrated approach put forward by Snell-Hornby as a guide, and made text analysis from top to bottom, which not only include analysis of text type, but also the cultural, environmental and functional factors. Then during the translation process the translator compared with different versions she translated, improved the quality of the translation and lastly concluded appropriate translation strategies and other common translation skills, such as omission, division, conversion and so forth. It is later proven that is a proper translation theory which could be applied to the translation of psychological self-help books. And the translator also hoped the experiences of the translation task she had could offer some references to the translators who would translate the similar text in the future.
