| With the growing tie and increasing exchange of economy and culture between different countries in recent years,the industrial chain pushed forward by tourism has been becoming mature.An increasing number of elaborately-made tourism texts have been presented to people.To a certain extent,tourism material can attract potential travelers and promote the development of tourism.Moreover,it is also an important medium of spreading domestic culture.Hence,much attention has been turned to the English translation of tourism texts.However the current situation of the C-E tourism translation is less than satisfactory.As a professional translation,tourism translation should comply with some proper principles.Text Typology Theory,proposed by Reiss,mainly classifies texts into informative texts,expressive texts and operative texts,and suggests specific translation methods are determined by text type in order to fulfill the functions of the text.This theory is applicable to guide the C-E tourism translation.By combining the theory and her practice related to tourism translation,the author discusses the important guiding effect of the theory on the translation of travel guides.This is a translation report of the author’s translation practice of the book Lonely Planet: Sichuan and Chongqing,guided by Reiss’ s Text Typology Theory.The report consists of five parts.Firstly,after discussing the background information and the task briefly,the author elaborates on the objectives and significance of the task at a macro level.Secondly,preparations before the translation are expounded,including the collection of information about the source text,tourism translation,the information related to the Text Typology Theory,translation tools,the differences between Chinese and English travel guides and the features of the source text.Thirdly,the theory and its methods applied in the translating are summarized.Fourthly,by combining the Text Typology Theory and translation practice,the author summarizesstrategies and methods used in the translation from lexical and syntactic level.Lastly,the author makes a summary of the experience and problems reflected by the translation,thus providing suggestions for the English translation of tourism texts. |
