Report On The Translation Of Biomimetics (Chapter 2&3)

Science and technology have been advancing quickly with each passing day,bringing about swift and forceful changes to the way that people live and develop.And globalization has broadened and deepened international communications greatly.Under this situation,translation of English texts of science and technology into Chinese is playing a bigger role.But both English and Chinese enjoy their own unique ways of thinking and have many linguistic differences,characteristically in grammar and syntax.Postpositive attributives,apart from anything else,are the typical trouble-makers,which ought to be studied by translators.Based on the Chinese translation of Biomimetics(Chapter 2&3)this report summarizes and presents five types of postpositive attributives,namely,adjective phrase,prepositional phrase,non-finite verb,attributive clause and separated attributive.And four methods are proposed about how to deal with postpositive attributives in Chinese translation of scientific English texts.They are the position-shifting method,the amplification method,the splitting method and the integrating method.This report falls into four parts regarding the description of translation project,the description of translation process,the translation of postpositive attributives and its case analysis,and the conclusion as an end.The first part introduces the background information of the project,and the client's requirements.The second part focuses on the pre-translation preparations,the translation process description and the revision process.The third part illustrates in detail the proposed strategies by exemplification.The fourth and also the last part is a summary of the translation report,mainly on the perception and inspirations with regard to translating scientific English texts into Chinese.
