The E-C Translation Of Psychological Text From The Perspective Of Adaptation Theory On The Study Case Of The Wisest One In The Room

With the development of science and technology,the social problems caused by psychological diseases arise increasingly.Much attention has been paid by domestic and overseas experts and scholars on psychological academic literature gradually.Nominalized structures,long sentences and passive sentence are frequently used in academic literature,due to the accuracy,objectivity and authority of them.The Linguistic Adaptation Theory,which was put forward by prof.Jef Verschueren,asserts that the process of using language is making choices continuously.Both context factors and language structure should be considered when it comes to dynamic adaptation.The author of this paper translated into Chinese the fourth and fifth chapters of The Wisest One in the Room,a psychological academic book.Based on Verschueren’s Adaptation Theory,this paper discussed what translation strategies one may take when translating English academic literature,with this translation practice as a specific case.For instance,conversion of the part of speech can be used for translating nominalized structures;long sentences can be translated in their original order,reverse order or in short fragments;the passive pattern can be transformed into the adaptive pattern in translation.The translation strategies as mentioned can not only convey the information of the original text accurately,but also be conducive to rendering the translated text acceptable to target readers by conforming to the three adaptation principles of context,language structure and dynamic adaptation.
