A Report On The E-C Translation Of Military Psychology Text—From The Perspective Of Adaptation Theory

Compared with the Western countries,research on the military psychology starts later in China.As a practical science in the military field,military psychology plays a vital role in various military situations such as military personnel selection,military performance,psychological training.Therefore,understanding and studying Western military psychology,learning from its research results and applying them into practice are of great significance to the consolidation of our national defense.This report is composed based on the English-Chinese translation of "Initial Validation of the U.S.Army Global Assessment Tool",an academic paper published in Military Psychology.In this report,the analysis of English military psychology texts is conducted,the difficulties encountered are then approached from three dimensions,namely,the lexical,the syntactic and the stylistic perspectives.And then the corresponding translation strategies are provided,a reflection on how to make the English-Chinese translation of military psychology text adapted to Chinese style is made from the perspective of the Adaptation Theory.For the lexical translation,the translator tends to use literal translation and zero translation to translate the newly coined military terms and the terms of psychology.With regard to the common words with contextual meaning and the ones with professional meaning,returning to the related context is a good way to identify their meanings.At the syntactic level,the translation techniques including conversion,division and addition are adopted to unscramble the long and complex sentences to highlight the distinctive expression level and rigorous logical structure layout of the academic discourse.It is expected that this report can offer reference to the readers who take interest in military psychology and propose some translation strategies to the translators translating the similar texts.
