Metaphor Translation Based On Conceptual Blending Theory

The theory of cognitive linguistics was formed in the 1980 s to 1990 s.It holds that cognition is the foundation of human knowledge.In recent years,metaphor becomes a hot topic among various subjects,especially the cognitive function of metaphor becomes increasingly important.However,we can rarely see the application of conceptual blending theory in translation process,and related research still has some limitations,such as lack of case-studies in the process of translation.Therefore,metaphor translation based on conceptual blending theory offers a new perspective for translation studies.The book Thinking and Reasoning is regarded as the research object in the practice report,and Chapter Four is selected as the translated text.Psychologist Ken Manktelow put forward many logical reasoning methods in this book,which include psychology,biology,philosophy,linguistics and others that can influence people's thinking.The translator start from the combination of both theory and practice,and studies metaphor translation based on conceptual blending theory.Conceptual blending theory is one of the important theories of cognitive linguistics,and has a general guidance on meaning construction and understanding.With the guidance of conceptual blending theory,the report uses case analysis to discuss metaphor translation which provides a guides guidance to improve the quality of this kind of translation and improve the level of cognitive translation and the ability to solve practical problems.
