A Translation Report Of Alice Walker:A Critical Companion Guided By The Context Theory

Translation is an important way in cultural communication.The translation of literature review has essential meaning on literature study.The source text for this translation practice is a book review excerpted from the book Alice Walker:A Critical Companion by Gerri Bates,including two representative works of Alice Walker.This report consists of two parts: the content of translation practice and the translation report.The total number of translation is more than 10 thousand.Guided by context theory,this paper aims to analyze the translation strategy and translation techniques applied in the translation practice.Through the analysis of the source text before translation,it is considered as informative text and literary text.Namely,both the transmissions of information and the mode of expression should be the focused principles in translation.Moreover,to be a reference for literary studies of teachers,students and literature amateurs,the translation must be technical,readable and understandable.Considering the features of the source text and the target readers,context theory is used as the guiding theory,and explicitation as the translation strategy to the translating.Translation techniques such as particularization,semantic extension,amplification,and sentence reconstruction are used.The objective of the report is to generalize the strategy and methods used in translation practice,especially in translating literary review,and to find problems of translation.Through this,the translator's ability to translate and solve problems can be greatly improved.If it is possible the report can be a reference for the translation or study of literary review text in the future.
