From "Female Students" To "Female Writers"

The May Fourth New Cultural Movement represents a turbulent era,under the situation of human realization and the call for female liberation,the Chinese modern female students appeared.The first generation of female writers evolved form female students including Bing Xin,Chen Hengzhe,Feng Yuanjun,Shi Pingmei,Su Xuelin,Lu Yin and more started to “emerge from the historical surface”.The were born in and also intrinsic to May Fourth New Cultural Movement.From national enlightenment to the gender awareness,from social development to the liberation of personality,they successfully occupied a corner of modern literature with their own unique thoughts and artistic style,and became one of the groups being researched and focused significantly.This paper discussed the historical scenarios of the transformation from female students to female writers and interpreted the literatures of first generation of female writers,through sorting out the appearance of female students.Thus revealed its historical trajectory,explored the literary imagination and construction.This paper explored the supports of May Fourth New Cultural Movement for female writing,from the point of historical investigation and intensive reading of the text.And based on the investigation of their literary works,it tried to explore the identity,gender awareness,life experience and other important issues of modern females;further explored the survival and development of females,the relation between females and the nation state,etc.This paper was divided into four parts.It researched under the background of historical review and intensive textual reading,checked the related stories of Western missionaries,advanced male intellectuals,as well as the relevant historical data of family background,educational background,life experience of the first generation of female writers.It also discussed the sex liberation,national discourse,subject consciousness construction issues,and analysed the phenomenon of female students' appearances,transformations and the literary imaginations,which formed a relatively complete research system.The first part is the introduction,mainly sorted out the changes of female students' developments and research status from the reason and purpose of this research thesis.The second part checked the relevant historical data and discussed the liberation of women from the clue of female students' appearance.The third part explored the historical opportunity of women's writing and viewed the phenomenon of supports and helps from the May Fourth New Cultural Movement under the background of women's transformation from students to writers.The fourth part discussed the literary imagination and explored the problem of women's survival and development,starting from the literary works with obvious gender experience and a strong “autobiography” sense,around three aspects: “love”,“enlightenment”,and “self”.The conclusion part summarised the main points and conclusions of the paper.This paper explored the women's liberation,women's subjective consciousness and discussed the major influence of May Fourth New Cultural Movement to female writers through the examination of female students' emergence,and their successful transformation from the “female students” to “female writers”.In the discussion of female authors' literature imagination,it expanded the space of women's survival and development.This paper believed that the first generation of female writers are not only as a symbol of historical appearance,but also the “tag” of the female voice.Their inheritance of the May Fourth New Cultural Movement spirit,active responsibility of the times' obligations,and the relentless exploration of gender harmony,still had an immortal practical significance.Hope that the first generation of female writers' relentless and enterprising spirit will have an incentive effect on the “negative”,“anxious” younger generation.
