On The Translation Of Children's Poetry From The Perspective Of The Skopos Theory

As a classic of children's poetry,A Child's Garden of Verses,written by Robert Louis Stevenson,has been regarded as the best initiatory book for children in the world literature.It is an incomparable work in English literature appraised by Encyclopedia Britannica.With many different versions that are translated into kinds of languages,translation versions of this collection are very popular among children readers in the world market.After reading this collection,Jin Bo holds a view that children's poetry conveys the children's fun and deeply affects Chinese children's poetry as an excellent literature work for children.As the core of the German,Functionalist Translation Theory,the Skopos Theory is a breakthrough to the traditional translation theory.It regards translation as a purposeful human activity,and emphasizes the purpose of translation.It is also believed that translation purpose is the top-ranking rule of translation activities.Skopos Theory greatly improves the status of translators and the importance of the target language readers.It also stresses their participation and creation in the course of translation and understanding.This thesis adopts literature research method,comparative research method as well as the exemplification method.The author takes the three most influential Chinese versions of A Child's Garden of Verses as the research object,analyzing the differences of the three versions from different aspects(include the phonetic level,the lexical level,the rhetorical level,the sentence level,textual level,foreignization strategy,domestication strategy).Through comparison,the author finds that:Firstly,it provides a new perspective to the translation research of A Child's Garden of Verses.Secondly,it is feasible to put Skopos Theory into the children's poetry translation and it is also instructive and significant to children's poetry translation.Lastly,the Skopos Theory can not only bring much enlightenment to children's poetry translation,but also prornote the development of children's poetry translation by applying Skopos Theory into the children's poetry translation.Therefore,it is of great significance to analyze the translation of children's poetry from the perspective of Skopos Theory.
