There are 130 thousand school-age children with visual impairment in our country. The visually impaired children’s mental health and behavior problems are prominent.Self-consciousness is defined as the individual social function of perception psychologically and physiologically.Self-evaluation refers to the subject’s understanding of oneself.Adverse tendencies on children’s self-evaluation can affect their life in many aspects. The visually impaired children’s self –awareness development brings negative effects due to Visual impairment as a result of more behavioral problems. This study adopts quantitative and qualitative methods and combines the use of Piers-Harris self-consciousness scale for children,Achenbach Children Behavior Checklist(CBCL)aims to t explore the relationship between visually impaired children’s self-consciousness and their behavior problems based on a questionnaire survey of 83 visually impaired children and their parents and the questionnaire survey of interviews and observation. The results prove that:1、The overall level and the dimensions of the visually impaired children’s self-concept were significantly lower than the norm. The level of self-consciousness for blind children was significantly higher than that of children with low vision;blind girl’s self-consciousness is higher than the level of visually impaired boys;8-10 age group of visually impaired children self-awareness level is the best,14-16 years old group in second place,11-13 years group in the lowest level;urban visually impaired children self-awareness is higher than the level of rural children.2、The phase behavior of the visually impaired children problem is serious and significant differences compared with the norm. The behavior problems in visually impaired children include social problems, thought problems, attention problems, aggression. There is significant difference between different groups of visually impaired children groups.3、The visually impaired children’s self-consciousness and behavior problems have very significant negative correlation between self-concept and behavior problems in multiple dimensions.Self-consciousness factor has significant predictive effect on behavior problems. The behavior problems is more for visually impaired children with lower self consciousness, the behavior problems is less for visually impaired children with higher self consciousness.Self awareness scores have a significant negative effect on the shrink back and also a significant negative predictor, including discipline behavior, the problem of thinking is predicted by intelligence and school and social factors negatively predicted aggressive behavior.Children with less happiness and satisfaction are more likely to experience low anxiety / depression.Self consciousness and behavior observation results further show that the visually impaired children family and early intervention has very important influence to the formation of visually impaired children self awareness and good habits.
