Relationship Among Cultural Orientation,Alcohol Attitude And Drinking Behavior In Undergraduates

Object Based on the investigation of the relationship among cultural orientation,alcohol attitude and drinking behavior,this study tries to analyze the characteristics of implicit and explicit cultural orientation,alcohol attitude,and discuss their relationship with drinking behavior to provide theoretical basis for preventing undergraduate’s drinking.Methods60 college students were randomly sampled to finish the implicit association test and explicit scale.Experiments included implicit cultural orientation test and implicit alcohol attitude test.The questionnaire included horizontal and vertical collectivism and individualism cultural orientation questionnaire,alcohol attitude scale,alcohol expectancy questionnaire and alcohol use disorders identification test.Results The explicit cultural orientation of college students was mainly from the level of collectivism(3.89±0.49),and the mean score of implicit cultural orientation was 120.86,which showed a tendency of collectivism.The horizontal individualism dimensions of cultural orientation differ significantly in the location of the individual’s family(F=3.91,p<0.05).There was significant difference in mother’s educational level on horizontal individualism(F=4.93,p<0.01),vertical individualism(F=5.72,p<0.01),and implicit cultural orientation(F=3.04,p<0.05).There was no significant correlation between implicit and explicit cultural orientations(p>0.05).The mean value of explicit drinking attitude of college students was 3.03,and the average of knowledge dimension was 3.62.The mean value of implicit drinking attitude was 77.24.The sexual differences were found in explicit alcohol attitude(t=3.98,p<0.001).There was significant difference in mother’s educational level between the two groups(F=4.00,p<0.05).There was no significant correlation between implicit and explicit drinking attitudes(p>0.05).The implicit scores were lower than that of explicit and implicit scores higher than that of explicit group(χ2=5.07,p<0.05).There was significant correlation between implicit alcohol attitude and implicit cultural orientation(r=-0.29,p<0.05).The correlation between implicit cultural orientation,explicit alcohol attitudes,knowledge dimensions of alcohol attitude and drinking behavior were significant(r=-0.29,p<0.05;r=0.29,p<0.05;r=0.36,p<0.01).The knowledge dimension of drinking attitude and the implicit cultural orientation have a predictive effect on the drinking behavior of college students.Conclusion:(1)The explicit cultural orientation of college students is mainly horizontal collectivism,while the implicit cultural orientation is collectivism.Implicit cultural orientation and explicit cultural orientation are two independent systems.(2)The attitude of explicit drinking is more neutral,which is more tolerant to knowledgeable drinking and social drinking,and more conservative for emotional drinking and indulgent drinking.Implicit drinking attitude is more tolerant.Implicit drinking attitude and explicit drinking attitude is independent of the two attitudes.(3)The more implicit cultural orientation towards collectivism,the more cautious their drinking attitude.(4)The knowledge dimension of alcohol attitude affects drinking behavior,collectivism cultural orientation is the protective factor of drinking behavior.
