Change Of The Implicit Attitude

The consciousness of imlicit attitude is on a hot debate in academic field. APE model supports implicit attitudes have some degree of conscious. But there are a few conceptual and empirical issues that pose a challenge for the model. This study is aim to verify the APE model in explaining implicit attitude by means of experiment. Prove implicit attitude is not completely unconscious, story plot can affect the participants’ implicit attitude. The study will also explore the reason why plot can influence implicit attitude.To complete the research, we designed three experiments based on the study of Foroni(2005) and choose the age-IAT paradigm as the implicit attitude measure means.Experiment 1 using single factor pretest-posttest experiment design, independent variable(propositional material) has three levels: selfinvoled- novelty fictional plot, unselfinvoled- novelty fictional plot and instruction information. We tested the change of the implicit and explicit attitudes to explore the difference in proposition material effect implicit attitude and the implicit attitude change pattern. The experimental results show that: novelty fictional plot can reduce the participants’ implicit prejudice but instruction information can not; Plot reduce implicit bias has no significant differences in self-involed dimensionality; The pattern of implicit attitudes change is direct impact on association processing.Experiment 2 increases the "scheme" and "emotion" two dependent variable indexes, verify the results of experiment 1 again and proved the significant effect of "scheme" and "emotion" in decreasing implicit bias, but has not prove the mediation role of "scheme" in plot influencing implicit attitude.Experiment 3 using single factor pretest-posttest experiment design, independent variable has three levels: selfinvoled- simple reality plot, selfinvoled- detailed reality plot plot and instruction information. Experimental results show that reality plot can also reduce the participants’ implicit prejudice. Plot reduce implicit bias has no significant differences in simple-detail dimensionality. Experiment 3 still doesn’t prove the mediation role of "scheme" and "emotion" in plot influencing implicit attitude, also doesn’t prove the mediation role of "scheme" in emotion influencing implicit attitude.From these three experiments,we concluded that:(1) the story plot can change the participants’ implicit attitude;(2) the instruction information can’t change the participants’ implicit attitude;(3) plot reduce implicit bias has no significant differences in self-involed dimensionality;(4) plot reduce implicit bias has no significant differences in simple-detail dimensionality;(5) the "scheme" and "emotion" is not the intermediary variable of plot influencing implicit attitude change.
