| The material of this report is selected from a contemporary American novel,Love Comes First.Love Comes First,written by Emily Giffin,has been published in May,2016.This book tells about two sisters’ relationship change after their brother’s death from woman’s perspective.This novel is centering on family relations.The words used in the novel are very simple and colloquial.But many American historical and cultural elements can be frequently found in the novel,which add much trouble to readers and translators if they don’t pay attention to this.Besides,many words are used in different context in the novel but can’t be translated into Chinese according to the consistence principle.In addition,considering the cultural difference,many words in the novel can’t be transfereneed according to their literal meanings regardless the historical or cultural elements or meaning transmutation.Therefore,we must refer to the contextual parameters when we understand or translate the novel,which also brings a lot of challenge to translators.Based on these translation problems,the translator,under the guidance of contextual parameters,finishes the translation of the first four chapters and makes analysis of the critical problems in the translation.In the process of translation,the translator,from the perspective of macro-middle-micro contextual parameters,uses different kinds of dictionaries to define the basic meanings of the words and tries to analyze the mutual-referential,governing and meaning projecting among different contextual parameters.And besides,various translation techniques are used in the process of translation to express it naturally and purely.This thesis is composed of four parts.The first part is task description,which makes a brief introduction of this novel;the second part focuses on process description which briefs the process of research and elaborates the ‘contextual parameter’ theory;the third part is the most important part of the whole thesis,centering on case studies;the fourth part is about conclusion of the thesis. |
