Translation Of Contextual Meaning In Academic Texts

The source text of this translation practice report is based on the translation of the academic text South Korea under Compressed Modernity from Chapter 1 to Chapter 2.The source text expounds the characteristics of compressed modernity in Korean society,the causes of compressed modernity,various concepts of familism,as well as its causes and social effects.The source text is a typical academic text.The author uses some special words and sentences,as well as neologisms and cultural images to elaborate the concept of compressed modernity,which have different meanings in different contexts.Therefore,the translation of the specific contextual meaning of certain words,sentences,neologisms and cultural images is the focus and difficulty of this translation practice,while expressing the meaning accurately.This translation practice report focuses on the translation of the contextual meanings of words,sentences,neologisms and cultural images in academic texts from three contextual perspectives: linguistic context,situational context and cultural context,based on the contextual problems encountered by the translator in the translation process.By selecting and analyzing typical cases,the translator mainly adopts the translation method of liberal translation and translation techniques such as addition and shift to reproduce the contextual meaning of the original text.This translation practice enables the translator to have a deeper understanding of academic texts and a deeper understanding of the translation of contextual meaning,hoping that it can improve the author’s theoretical application ability and also provide some reference and guidance for the translation practice of such texts.
