A Translation Report On Robots Rule

This translation report is based on the translation of Robots Rule by British writer C.J.Richards.As the first book of the robots series,it belongs to science fiction for children.Unique in conception and vivacious in language,science fiction for children is very popular and plays an irreplaceable role in cultivating children‘s creative thinking and arousing their curiosity and thirst for knowledge.But the translation of this genre of literature started relatively late in China,and its study is not thorough enough.Guided by the functional equivalence theory put forward by Eugene A.Nida and based on the examples from the translation of Robots Rule,this report aims to explore the translation methods of this fiction from two levels: lexical and syntactic.Studies and analysis show that translation methods at the lexical level include change of word class,transliteration,amplification,omission and so on and that those at the syntactic level include literal translation,free translation,division,inversion and transformation between the affirmative and the negative.The report tests the guiding role of Nida‘s functional equivalence theory in translating science fiction for children and summarizes the common methods used in this translation process,which have some practical and theoretical significance.
