As one of the major poets and novelists of the Twentieth Century,Jorge Luis Borges has left a treasure trove of literary works that future generations could continue to savour and appreciate.There has been a large number of biographies of Borges focusing on different aspects of his writing experience.The writer of Georgie & Elsa is Borges' s bosom friend and partner,Norman Thomas di Giovanni,who witnessed and recorded the marriage of Borges and Elsa.The author of this report,based on the translation of Chapter 14-22,analyzes the translator's subjectivity and its multiple functions of choice,empathy and stipulation.Combining with the characteristics of biography – with emphasis on authenticity and logic as well as effective information delivering – the report discusses the difficulties,related translation strategies and methodologies in the process of translation,supported by examples.The author first conducts a brief description of the source and content of the selected materials.Then she states the preparation before translation,including the collection of proper nouns and background knowledge as well as the planning of the task ahead.From the perspective of translator's subjectivity,practical difficulties and solutions encountered in this task are also noted and analyzed.Finally,the author highlights the limitations and shortcomings of this study,and summarizes the translation experience.On the basis of translating the biography text of Georgie & Elsa,this report discusses translation strategies and methods from the perspective of the translator's subjectivity.It is hoped that this report would provide a useful reference point for future related translation studies and translators.
