Comparison Between Chinese And Western Politeness Principles From Cross-cultural Communication Perspectives

Politeness is a common phenomenon of human society in the process ofcommunication.It is the code of conduct people must comply with in the process of communication and the necessary means to maintain good interpersonal relationship.It is also an important symbol of the human civilization progress and the cornerstone of successful communication.Politeness principle is the principle that must be followed in social language communication.People can use a variety of ways to express politeness implication,and more and more scholars begin to study the politeness language expression,especially the politeness principle in cross-cultural communication.In cross-cultural communication,language is the most widely used tool.From the expression of verbal communication,it can be clearly seen that the differences are caused by different Chinese and Western cultural backgrounds.In today's society,international communication is becoming more and more frequent,and the communication between Chinese and Western cultures is becoming deeper and deeper,which inevitably brings the communication between Chinese and English cultures contradiction and conflict.At this time the politeness principle and polite language of the expression between the two sides' of the speakers will become very important in terms of cognition and understanding.In the process of cross-cultural communication,politeness principle is the principle that both parties must abide by.Both Chinese scholars and Western scholars are studying politeness principle.Any neglect of politeness principle will affect the smooth progress of cross-cultural communication.It is beneficial to improve the communication between the two cultures when deepening the understanding of the origins and differences between Chinese and western politeness principle,which ensures the smooth progress of crosscultural communication.This paper makes a comparative research of Chinese and Western Politeness Principle in the perspective of cross-cultural communication.After reviewing the origin of politeness principle and the present situation of domestic and foreign research,this paper focuses on the comparison between domestic research of Gu Yueguo's and Western research of Leech's politeness principle,it points out the differences of these two politeness principles under the guidance of some polite language and behavior.This article also analyzes the reasons for the differences between Chinese and WesternPoliteness Principles,and puts forward the countermeasures to avoid the conflict between Chinese and Western Politeness Principles in cross-cultural communication.In a word,the comparison between Chinese and western politeness principle in cross-cultural perspective is reasonable in theory and practical in practice.It is expected that this kind of research will be further developed and deepened.
