Report On The Translation Of Biomimetics(Chapter 11)

Technical text is professional,formal and typically involves many terminologies.However,parallel texts,understandable and operable,contribute a lot to set up a bridge between the abstract translation theories and translation practices.Applying parallel texts to scientific translation could provide a good understanding of the source language and a normal way of expressing the target language.This project is an English-Chinese translation about Gecko Adhesion,Chapter 11 of the book Biomimetics.The source text is logical and rigorous with terminologies and a specialized knowledge of biomimetics.This report,on the basis of this translation project,mainly explores the application of parallel texts in scientific translation.This report comprises of four parts: part one is an introduction to the translation project;part two elaborates on the definition,classification and the research status of parallel texts;part three is a case study for the application of parallel texts in scientific translation on three aspects: parallel texts and Skopostheorie,the semantics accuracy of the target language and the normalization of the target language;part four is a summary of the translation project report.Based on the translation project and case analysis,this report explores the guiding significance of parallel texts in scientific translation,hoping that it could provide insight and references to this field.
