This thesis is a report of a Chinese-English translation practice taken from Chapter Six to Chapter Seven of The History of Xinjiang, which is written by Guan Shouxin and Wan Xueyu.Published in 2015,this book is recommended by my instructor and certain parts of it are co-translated by five classmates. This book is a historical text focusing on truth and objectivity.Meanwhile it is featured by academic terms.Under the guidance of the Functional Equivalence Theory proposed by American linguist and translator Eugene Nida, this translation report aims at making the original text and translated text equivalent in semantic, stylistic and cultural aspects.Taking into account all the features of the project, the translator summarizes some translation strategies. This report consists of five chapters.Chapter ? is a brief introduction of the source text.Chapter ? describes the preparation on translation practice, translation process and revising work.Chapter ? introduces Nida's translation theory and translation strategies to translate a historical text.As the core of the report,Chapter? is the case analysis.Chapter ? is the conclusion,in which, the translator summarizes the gains and limitations in translation practice. This translation report could provide guidance and help to those who are interested in the history and culture of Xinjiang.
