Folk stories are a vital resource in the study of Uyghur culture. This is due to their innate link to not only Uyghur religious beliefs, but also to their customs, lifestyle, morals and outlook on the world. At present, there is a pressing need to further enrich the study of folk literature and this may be achieved through the active collection and organisation of Uyghur folk stories.People around the world today are leading ever more modernised lives and,as a result,we have become ignorant to the value of folk stories, sometimes even forgetting them altogether. For this reason, the way in w12 ch we digitalise and organise them needs to continually adapt itself to meet the needs of this modern age.In order to solve the aforementioned problems,a series of fieldwork trips have been undertaken and through the usage of a range of digital recording equipment, such as digital cameras, computers and portable audio recorders, the author has made pioneering efforts in the collection, recording, organisation and preservation of Uyghur folk stories for future generations. What's more, the author has also taken both theoretical and practical guidance from the theories and methodologies of folk literature, folklore and anthropology, with the aim of taking a more modern, scientific approach to data collection, recording, organisation and analysis. This paper consists of a total of three chapters.Chapter One not only introduces the topic of investigation and the significance of research, but also the author's methodology.Following that,it describes the need for change from textual to digitalised recording and the role modern technology can play therein.Furthermore,Chapter One also gives an account on current digital recording methods, the current state of collection and organisation, and the active role digitalisation can play in the preservation and dissemination of folk stories.Chapter Two gives an overview on the collected materials, focusing on their narrative forms, geographical distribution, inheritance, usage, and subject matter.Chapter Three aims to provide a possible solution to the technical problems one may often meet when digitalising folk stories, not only through the use of general fieldwork principles, but also by taking inspiration from the author's personal experiences.Chapter Four provides an introduction to the organisation, preservation and academic usages of first-hand materials.
