| This translation report is based on a ten-thousand-word English-Chinese translation task.The original text is selected from A Textbook of Translation written by Peter Newmark,a famous English scholar in translation studies.The book is made up of two parts.Some topics and problems involved in translation are comprehensively discussed in the former part.The second part consists of 13 translation exercises.It is a classic textbook which can be used as a learning manual for English majors,and translators can also use it for further study.The translation of this book can provide a better learning material and guidance for more learners and researchers,and the author can also learn a lot of knowledge of translation from the text itself.This report was written after the completion of the translation of Chapter 7 of A Textbook of Translation.The report focuses on the problem of word mistranslation in the author’s translation process,explores the manifestation and causes of word mistranslation in the process of English-Chinese translation of translation theory texts,and comes up with the relevant solutions.In the early and middle period of translation,the author gained a good understanding of the relevant theoretical background knowledge,referred to the related literature and used some reference books.This thesis is made up of five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which introduces the reason,the significance and the research content of this paper.The second chapter is the process of the project,and it describes the process of the translation,including the preparation,the translation process and the revision.In the third chapter,the problems of word mistranslation in translation process are summarized.They are incomplete semantic transmission,pragmatic inconsistency with context and improperly dealing with special words.In the fourth chapter,some solutions are come up with to solve the word mistranslation discussed in the third chapter,including thorough understanding of meaning,proper understanding of context,and cautious translation of special words.The fifth chapter is the conclusion,which summarizes what the author has learned from this translation project. |
