The reform scheme for English college entrance examination issued in 2014 shows that in the next few years English examination will be held for several times each year by the society,which means that English education and teaching will be more social,and families in the future will bear more responsibility for the development of children' s English ability.Thus,how to cultivate children' s foreign language learning abilities and skills more effectively at English training schools and families in society will become more and more important in the field of foreign language education in the future.The theme of this study is in order to adapt to the new trend and situation of the English education.The writer of this research links parenting style and children' s language cognitive styles together in order to focus on the influences on children' s English cognitive styles caused by the parenting style.In regard to the research methods,the researcher mainly employs the way of case study,but at the same time uses some quantitative investigations to assist the qualitative research.The author also formulates survey instruments as the form of questionnaires and the outline of questions for case-interview by herself according to the domestic and foreign research results.At the beginning of this research,the researcher mainly conducts quantitative investigations with a large quantity of samples,and then by the way of gradually focusing selects the suitable cases to be surveyed with a high density of interviews and observations.Deep and comprehensive analyses of quantitative data are also carried out to assist qualitative analyses of the cases so as to probe into how parenting styles influence the forming of their kids' cognitive styles and what cognitive styles maybe formed through different kinds of parenting styles,which will help parents to know the good parenting patterns to promote forming the proper cognitive styles that are benefit for improving foreign language skills of their children.It will also contribute to parents' adjusting their parenting ways to help their children to promote their foreign language learning ability.The results of the statistical analyses of the quantitative investigation data indicate that among the parenting styles of democratic,authoritarian,negligent and indulgent types,the number of the parents who hold the parenting styles of the democratic type take up the largest proportion,while the number of the parents who hold the parenting styles of the authoritarian and indulgent types rank the second and the third respectively,and the number of the parents who are under negligent type accounts for the least proportion.It can be clearly seen from the results of this study that the differences among the parenting styles are significantly reflected on the forming of the children' s English cognitive styles.Children under the parenting styles of a democratic and an authoritarian type tend to form a filed dependence English cognitive style,however,the processes of the two types of parenting styles' influencing on forming English cognitive styles are completely different,while those children under the parenting styles of an indulgent and a negligent type are inclined to form a filed independence English cognitive style,nevertheless,the processes of their influencing on forming English cognitive styles are also completely different.From what has been discussed above it can be easily seen that the processes of parenting styles' influencing on forming English cognitive styles are not simplex and fixed,but complexly intertwined and by degrees.Thus,the conclusion can not be drawn that forming a kind of English cognitive style are fixedly caused by one type of parenting style.At the same time,people should also considerate the personal factors of the learners,which can also influence forming English cognitive styles except parenting styles.Therefore,the analyses of the influencing factors towards English cognitive styles can not be separated from the analyses of psychological factors of the learners.Based on the findings of this study,the author puts forward two suggestions for parents and teachers.In brief,students' parents should strengthen understanding the parenting styles of their own and the cognitive styles of their children,and especially learn to know what kinds of cognitive ways are more beneficial to the kid's learning effects,and furthermore adjust their own parenting styles appropriately according to the dynamic relations between the above two.
