The Translation Of WHO Medical Report

Medical text remains a hard nut to crack in translation. This kind of text, a huge challenge for layman, demonstrating lots of professional knowledge, requires that translators provide their translation with high level of accuracy. Eliminating Malaria, a medical report published by World Health Organization (WHO) on April, 2016, is selected to demonstrate the author 's translation methods under the guidance of Peter Newmark's Communicative Translation strategy. This report analyzes the progress and methods of malaria elimination using the malaria case data from past and present, and shed light on future movements.The first part of this paper briefly introduces the medical report,translation reason and language feature. The second part is a short description of Peter Newmark's translation strategies, and its connection with medical report. In the third part, the author illustrates the translation methods used in the practice under the guidance of Communicative Translation strategy from two aspects: vocabulary and syntax. The last part is a conclusion of this report. When translating medical texts,translators should go to great lengths to achieve accuracy in every detail.Therefore, the author refers to Yatsen English-Chinese Chinese-English Medical Dictionary and medical journals, and adds annotations to difficult terms so as to deliver an accurate translation. If there is no corresponding translation in the medical dictionary, the author would search online to double check its correctness and accuracy.
