This study is conducted from the perspective of Medio-translatology and under the framework of "5W" communication model.What Medio-translatology concerns includes both "translation" and "communication",a complex process of cultural dissemination rather than the literal transformation between two languages.This concept would help us to understand the essence of translation study more comprehensively.The "5W" communication model consists of the following five questions: "Who?","Says what?","In which channel?","To whom?" and "With what effect?".The model is a complete description of communication process and can be well applied to the study of translation and communication to make the study more systematic and comprehensive.This paper contains four chapters.Chapter one is a literature review of the translation and communication of Chinese literature and Wolf Totem.Chapter two discusses and analyzes Medio-translatology theory and "5W" communication model in a more detailed way,and then further interprets how the theories would guide translation studies.Chapter three investigates the actual translation and communication effect of Wolf Totem in English-speaking world from two dimensions,namely,the "hard" effect and "soft" effect.The "hard" effect survey involves six aspects: English copyright sales,global library collections,international awarding,mainstream Western media reports,overseas film spreading,worldwide bestseller ranking and rating."Soft" effect is studied mainly through a large number of book reviews of professional and ordinary readers overseas,directly exploring how much and in which aspects they are influenced by Wolf Totem.The research data and analysis in this paper show that Wolf Totem is a huge success in translation and communication and has achieved good results in many aspects,economically,culturally and mentally.Chapter four analyzes the influential factors for the success of Wolf Totem under the framework of "5W" communication model,including the following five: selection of subject,characteristics of content,combination of communication channels,differentiation of audience groups and follow-up of effect.Meanwhile,in each of the above five aspects,some advice generalized from the success of Wolf Totem are proposed for the translation and communication of Chinese literature,to make Wolf Totem a real "model" for other works.According to the data and analysis in this paper,Wolf Totem turned out to be outstanding in the course of translation and communication,having achieved good communication effect economically,culturally and spiritually.The reason behind the good communication effect of Wolf Totem has been analyzed from five aspects: subject,content,channel,audience and effect.Furthermore,some advises have been given to the translation and communication of Chinese literature from the same five points above,hoping to exhume the value at the most from the experience of Wolf Totem.
