As a highly effective mode of interpretation,simultaneous interpretation still faces the problem of improving its quality.Schema theory can provide inspiration to solve this problem from the perspective of studying human cognitive mechanism.Through the way of empirical study,this thesis proves that the storage of content schemata is positively correlated with the quality of simultaneous interpretation.This thesis first introduces former researches on simultaneous interpretation,schema theory and researches on simultaneous interpretation from the perspective of schema theory.Then this thesis introduces the development of schema theory and characteristics,classification as well as function of schema.Research in this thesis employs the way of empirical study and chooses church service simultaneous interpretation as the object of interpretation analysis.8 church service simultaneous interpreters are invited to participate in the experiment and they are divided into experimental group(Group1)and control group(Group2),with experimental group getting preparing material about the background knowledge of church service in advance while the control group not,which means interpreters in Group2 get corresponding storage of content schemata in advance.During the experimenting process,interpretation is collected 8 times and quantitative as well as qualitative analysis is done after.In quantitative analysis,first statistical analysis is done to the interpreting condition of representative church service terms by two groups.Statistical analysis finds that the percentage of correct rendering of terms by experimental group which conducts corresponding content schemata storage beforehand is 67.5% and that is obviously higher than the 46.25% of correct rendering of terms by control group.Then statistical analysis is done to the correct rendering percentage of primary and secondary information in 10 sense groups by two groups.The finding is that the correct rendering percentage of primary and secondary information in ten sense groups by experimental group(Group2)is much higher than that of control group(Group1).In qualitative analysis,through the text analysis of 3 groups of sample interpretation by 4 interpreters in the experimental group and 4 interpreters in the control group,the finding that the interpretation quality of interpreters in the experimental group which has corresponding content schemata storage beforehand is far better than that of the control group can be gained.Through research this thesis finds that the higher the professional degree of the source information is,which means the higher the demand of the storage of corresponding content schemata is,the lower the percentage of correct rendering by the interpreter will be.The more storage of corresponding content schemata by the interpreter is,the better the interpreter will be at understanding,employing of simultaneous techniques and expressing,the higher the quality of simultaneous interpretation will be.Study in this thesis hopes to provide inspiration for the practice and teaching of simultaneous interpretation and encourage simultaneous interpreters to conduct more accumulation and storage of content schemata in corresponding area.
