An Analysis Of Anticipation Mechanism In Simultaneous Interpretation From The Perspective Of Schema Theory

With the rapid development of economy, Chinese’s foreign exchange, foreign affairs have been promoted. At the same time, a large number of interpreters are needed in every walks of life. The work of simultaneous interpretation is intensely complex, which integrates comprehension, aims, memory and expression. The limited time, the large information density and the quick speed of speaker’spoken are all the factors which will influence the quality of interpretation. Therefore, the interpreter should master the basic techniques of translation. In the strategies of translation, prediction is one of the most basic means, especially relative to the schema theory, which can not only improve the ability to process information, improve the quality of translation, but also can reduce interpreter cognitive load. At present, simultaneous interpreting is intensely active in the international arena, which is the most pervasive translation system with strong professional characteristics and high academic quality. Therefore interpretation requires the interpreters to have the ability to predict.The particularity of the Simultaneous interpretation requires the interpreter to predict the speech information before he/she begins to translate. Based on this motivation, this paper uses the schema theory to analyze Xi Jinping’s speech in UNESCO Headquarters. Schema theory plays an important role in the use of English language. It can invoke the related brain patterns of interpreter and enable the interpreter to make reasonable anticipation of the content and form of the speech. In this paper, focuses on the classification of Carol (Carra D.w)about schema theory, from the aspects of content schema, formal schema and linguistic schema, and expounds the importance of anticipation in simultaneous interpretation. After this, the paper use of schema theory combined with the Xi Jinping’speech content in the UNESCO headquarters to do in-depth and detailed analysis. The content covered includes eight categories, which are based on the argumentation based prediction, based on the descriptive genre prediction, and the prediction based on the subject knowledge. The final analysis pointed out that the establishment of the prediction mechanism can promote simultaneous interpretation successful completion. I hope this paper can plays a guiding role for the interpreter.
