Report On The Translation Of Research Methods In Interpreting

This report is based on the translation of Chapter1 & Chapter 6 of the academic monograph, Research Method in Interpreting. The significance and value of the thesis lie in its reflections on the translation of academic publications and its translation of and introduction to methodologies in interpreting research. It is generally known that interpreting has become a robust cross-cultural communication activity,and interpreting studies make a very important part in it, which is of great importance to interpreting students, practicing interpreters, and interpreting educators. The author selects part of this monograph to translate so as to deepen the understanding of interpreting research and related strategies and methods.The thesis starts by presenting the project background, objectives and significance,followed by discussions on relevant translation theories, profile of the original works and its authors. The difficulties and key issues in the translation project can be summarized as the following three aspects: first, how to maintain the original academic style; second, how to ensure effective translation project management; and third, how to achieve proper syntactical conversion. In the solution part, the thesis proposes the following coping strategies: first, trying to maintain the original style by means of theoretical and glossary preparation; second, ensuring progress by means of setting milestone events and conducting time management; third, adapting to the requirements of the target language through sentence-structure analysis. The completion and publication of the project may provide reference for other endeavors in translating academic works, and offer methodological guidance to interpreting researchers.
