A Report On The Translation Of Domestic Manners Of The Americans(Excerpts)

The Skopos Theory is a new important model of translation theory in western countries.In recent years,literary translation has got more and more attention in translation field.The requirements of literary translation are pretty complicated.However,most translation scholars regard the ?equivalence? principle as basic theoretical guidance of literary translation.In fact,the equivalence in literary translation by no means refers to the equivalence of contents and forms only.On the other hand,lots of scholars thought that there is some limitation in ?equivalence? principle,and it is not possible to achieve absolute equivalence.In this time,German functionalist translation theory put forward the Skopos Theory.This theory indicates that translation should come into play to satisfy reader's expectation in target language's culture and situation.The goal of translation behavior determines the whole process of translation behavior.In other words,the consequence determines the methods.After that,some scholars thought the Skopos Theory is appropriate to guide literary translation.This report will give a brief introduction to the Skopos Theory and take an example of part chapters in Domestic Manners of the Americans to analyze how the Skopos Theory directs the literary translation.
