Victor Hugo(1802-1885)is the pioneer of the 19 th Century European Romantic Literary Movement and the most representative master of the Romantic Literature.He is also the bannerman and icon of the French romanticism and he had achieved a lot in poem,drama,novel and prose.As for novels,such five major great works as Notre Dame de Paris(1831),Les Miserables(1862),Les Travailleuser de La Mer(1866),L'Homme Qui Rit(1869),Quatre Vingt Treize(1874),which not only reveal its epic times but also portray various vivid characters revealing the social darkness and treacherous human nature,meanwhile endowing soft and peaceful humanitarianism and deep thoughts.His works are the flags and milestones in the literature history for his excellent artistic expression and artistic appeal.In novel writing,Hugo adopts dramatic means of artistic expression freely and accurately,which endows his novels special structure,quirky twists and gorgeous vigour showing obvious dramatic feature extraordinarily.This paper is divided into such five parts as the introduction,three chapters and conclusion.The introduction mainly gives a brief introduction of literary status and major works of Hugo and summarizes the current researches on Hugo including domestic and overseas.,which acting as the breakthrough point to explain the significance and innovation of the thesis.The first chapter summarizes the development of western drama in general and discusses the artistic characters of drama and artistic effect of dramatizing novel.Meanwhile,it gradually brings the dramas of Hugo from the development of dramaand summarizes his novel writing.As a drama master,Hugo had achieved a lot.His Hernani is an important turn in the development of drama history in France,which proves that he knew the expression skills of drama well and was adept at using them.The second chapter mainly summarizes the dramatic feature of Hugo's novel creation,such five features as dramatization of structure,dramatization of the plot,dramatization of characters,dramatization of remarks of characters.In addition,this chapter takes the representative novels as examples including Notre Dame de Paris,Les Miserables,etc,to discuss and analyze dramatic feature in his novels specifically thus demonstrate such features completely.The third chapter expounds the dramatic feature in novels by Hugo and its significance of such research.The feature of dramatization in novels by Hugo are very systematic and is a art world which is created by Hugo himself.They are the most obvious artistic characters in his novel writing,which is very close to Hugo's theory of literature and art.This part starts with the ontological meaning of the dramatic feature of Hugo 's novels to reveal the significance of it to the writer,and explains the relationship between it and Hugo 's aesthetic thoughts,also including the academic significance of the research on the dramatic feature of Hugo 's fictional art,in order to elaborate it's guidance and inspiration to the later writers' literary creation.The conclusion highlights the dramatic feature,artistic effect and research meaning of Hugo's fictional art again and summarizes the whole paper.
