Initial Analysis Of The Embodiment And Value Of The Will Of Power In Art

The philosophical concept of “the will of power” was proposed by Friedrich Nietzsche in his late years.Nietzsche considers the pursuit of powerful forces and advantages as the essential characteristic of life,and he stays positive about it.The word “power” in “The will of Power” doesn't only mean the physical one,but also means the basic driving force and creativity in the world which is spontaneous and cyclic.In Nietzsche's discourse,the world is gradually generated and continually updated while The Will of Power can give a clear explanation of all the behaviors including the growing,expanding or being independent.For example,it can explain the plant and animal growth,the body circulation and the cultural phenomenon.Art,as one of the human cultural phenomenons,will certainly embody the operation law of The Will of Power.And the basic characteristic of The Will of Power,which is the chase after the difference,the change as well as the powerful force,will never disappear in the art.Four major topics are discussed in this article:Firstly,it starts with a targeted explanation of The Will of Power on the level of the organism,people and culture.And then I put forward the relationship between it and art;Secondly,the following chapters mainly focus on arguing the embodiment of The Will of Power in art through multiple aspects of art history(E.g.Western art history in 20 th century),the creating process of the artists(E.g.Picasso,Duchump,Beckman)and concrete artworks(E.g.Works of Lupertz).And as one of the reprentatives,the art in 20 th century reflects the movement of The Will of Power in three steps.For example,you can see the return of the primitivism in early 20 th century as a cycle process,the diversification of art style as a decomposition process as well as the abstraction in art form,.What's more,the artists tend to find themes in daily.Thirdly,the basic features of The Will of Power and its value have significant influence on creating process of art.For example,the nature of pursuing difference will be a great drive for art itself to realize the diversity and the abundance;The procedure of cycle and union asks art to seek for clues from the past and present its ideas in a clear and logical way.And the sense of power that chased Essentially by the will of power,in other word,the strength,set another unique judging standard on a certain level.Last but not least,the last part of the article discusses about the development way of modern Chinese art in 1980s-1990 s which was partly inspired by western art in 20 th century history.It's proper to say “the most clear different between them is that the Chinese art lacks internal logic and context”.So,if we use The Will of Power as a methodology which was embodied in western 20 th century,it will also suit the present situation of contemporary Chinese art.In other words,we are ‘seeking the clues and contexts from the past culture' and we will find new sense in the history in face of contemporary Chinese art.
